Animal Oddities Quiz: 12 Facts That Sound Made Up

Animals · 12 questions · Medium

Bright illustration of unusual animals including an octopus, chameleon and pangolin

The animal kingdom keeps producing facts that sound invented. Hearts in the wrong places, tongues longer than bodies, defence mechanisms that seem to break physics. This quiz collects twelve of the best documented ones and asks you to sort truth from plausible fiction.

Everything here comes from well-established natural history rather than viral posts, which matters, because a surprising share of popular animal facts are simply wrong. Where a common myth exists, we usually include it as a wrong answer.

Read the explanations even when you score the point. They name the adaptation involved, which is the part worth remembering.

Before you start

  • If an answer sounds like something you saw in a meme, be suspicious.
  • Superlative questions (fastest, largest) usually have a less obvious winner.
  • Explanations name the adaptation, which helps on later questions.
  • One question per page. Choose an answer and you will see whether you were right, plus why.
  • Restarting is only available after you reach the final results page, so your level reflects a complete run.
