Some film lines outgrow their films entirely. People quote them in offices, group chats and sports commentary without ever having seen the scene they came from. This quiz collects twelve of those lines and asks you to place each one.
We have avoided obscure deep cuts. Every quote here is widely recognised, which means the difficulty comes from the decoy answers rather than from unfair trivia. If you have a solid grounding in twentieth-century cinema you should do well, though a couple of questions reward people who know the exact wording rather than the popular misquote.
The explanations give the speaker, the year and the context, and in several cases the context is the genuinely surprising part.
